Get Style With Substance
I like to view and share interesting artwork, it’s why I like Pinterest.
In this update, I wanted to share an artist who has a style of their own; Afu Chan. He has a very unique visual style that causes his artwork to demand attention, which is the same thing we want with our products.
You can find a ton more artwork from Afu Chan in these two spots, so go and show him some love:
Visuals are the universal entry point to most users, so having a striking, instantly recognizable art style is certainly beneficial. It’s the most cost effective way for your game to self-promote itself wherever it’s placed, because it will naturally stand out from the 10’s of 1000’s of cookie cutter titles. Of course, the art-style needs to be cohesive with everything else. With an image style like this, it’s begging for fast, agile and flare riddle action and over-the-top story telling.
The style uses a mix of bold and muted colours, which help direct the viewers focus around his images. Surface detail is minimal, with just enough information to be interesting. Even though they’re static, these images ooze “character”. His posing is great and you get a really good sense of who these characters are, and how they would act.
Who wouldn’t want to play a game with these sorts of characters running around?
